Understanding change management principles

Each and every organization is different and the set of practice and tools might vary according to the type of organization. However there are some basic set of principles that can be followed by every organization for the change management to be effective. By knowing this set of principles the stakeholders will come to know what to expect and how to manage the changes that come their way.

To manage change a formal approach should be there. This formal approach to change should be developed early so that change will move across different stages in the organization. Don’t forget that it involves people and by managing change you are also managing people. Naturally there will be some resistance to the changes at the lower level in the organization.

The leaders should embrace the changes and act accordingly. The user will look at the leaders for the support. So acceptance of the change should come from the top level. So the executive teams should be aligned in such a manner that they accept the change and are towards success.

When a change is done all the people in the different layers should be informed of the changes that are going to happen and they should be involved in the changes taking place. Thus the resistance to changes will be minimal. A formal case should be formed and everybody should know that the change is going to take the company in the positive direction.

The roadmap to the desired goal should be well laid and it should be informed to all. The leaders should work more to make the change and this will make a positive change at the lower level.

Communication is more important in any organization. The changes that are going to happen should be communicated properly and effectively across the different levels of executives in the organization. Right information should reach everybody without fail. The culture and behavior should be accounted when a successful change has to happen.

The core values and beliefs of culture should be considered. The culture should be addressed openly.

Not everything will go the way you think. You should always be prepared to face the unexpected. Have some plans for the contingencies that would come your way. Assess the impact of the change and address it repeatedly to fine tune it so that the change is more effective in your organization.
