Understanding human resource management team functions
Human resource management is mostly thought to be of recruitment and payroll. But there is more to it. There are many processes in human resource management that you might not have thought of. They provide value addition to the organization’s goal. The top management also expects them to stretch their contribution towards it.
Some of the common functions of the human resource management department are those that are found in most of the companies. Payroll is an important function of the HR department. This function is linked to Time management where they need to keep track of the employee working hours in a month and create payroll according to that. Payroll gets its information from the time management module. With the advent of information technology in all aspects of the organization, it is easy to link time management with the payroll processing.
One of the other important functions of the HR department is Recruitment. It would be a tedious process if IT is not there. The concerned department would make a request for the openings in their department and the HR team has to place an advertisement for the openings. In the earlier days it was tedious process. Now they can easily place job opening in leading job sites and their own company website. In a day or two they can get thousands of applications and short list the candidates for interviews in a short duration.
Once the candidates are recruited, there comes the induction and orientation program where the new employees are given an induction program to suit to the culture of the organization. This is also a function of the HR department. Apart from this they would also give training programs on certain technologies that are needed for certain projects. This is to upgrade the skills the employees from time to time to cope up with the emerging trends.
Employee benefits administration, Performance appraisal, General HR Administration, and Travel administration are some of the other functions of the human resource management team.
