Change management needs special skills in a person. These skills are purely management skills that a person has. Skills for communication, leadership, planning etc are needed for a person to excel in change management. The person should be an initiator of changes and must be able to face the roadblocks on the way. They should be able to identify the persons who are interested in the changes going on and take them along and involve them in the change management process.

Time management skills, decision making, planning and communication skills are the ones that a person should possess in order to be an effective change manager. Successful change management needs all these skills. They should expect the changes to come and should be able to manage the resistance that comes along for the change. Interaction with the team members and getting to know their difficulties and problems is one of the skills that a good leader should have. Giving solutions to their problems is one of the aspects that the followers would look for. If you want to involve yourself and be effective in your work you should have a passion for your work. Otherwise you cannot give your full effort in your duties. Having good behavior and ethics is another aspect that everybody will look for in a leader.

Do not give room to emotions at all times. You have to be well composed in any situation. If you do not know how to manage your emotions you cannot be successful in change management. Any change will have resistance from the people in your organization. You have to deal with them and take along the people who support the changes and others will follow in due course. If any relationship is damaged then you should know how to repair that and be on track again. Know what you do, otherwise others may not know what you do.
