Types of change management methodology adopted generally

Implementing a change in an organization is not an easy task. You have to use proper strategy to implement a change management in an organization. You might face resistance to the change or people might accept the change and go about it. Depending on the situation and the culture in your organization your change management methodology might vary.

One of the methods to make people follow the changes is to have proper incentives in place and communicate with them properly about the incentives. People would evaluate the upside and the downside of the change that takes place. If there is big upside then naturally people will adapt to it. Either way you need to convince them to follow the change. One of the strategies is to target those who can influence others and inform them the upsides and others will be informed automatically.

Usually people follow the culture and they are attached to it often. Hence any change that is going to take place should be in such a way that the culture is re-defined so that they can follow that. But it is not easy to implement this change overnight. This methodology is not suited, if the changes have to take place during a short period.

Another method is to use power to make people do want you want. This is not useful in the culture in which there is autonomy and entrepreneurship. If bureaucracy is there in the culture then you can use this method in your organization too. Hence culture plays a crucial role in this approach too.

The other approach is to build a new organization with the new rules and environment and transfer people to it gradually. People are adaptive in nature and they will adapt to the new environment easily since they don’t like loss or disruption in their career.
