If change management control has to be success there should be a well controlled process in the organization. You have to clear in certain things before you proceed with the change management process.

The basis on which a change is approved should be clear. The team or the person who is going to do that change is also important. Detailed procedures and forms should be there for working on the change request. The members of the change control board will be approving the change request before the work on it is started. The authority level for approval of the change also affects the change management control. Change management is also linked to the other processes like the configuration management and the issue management process. The tools that are used in the change management process and other processes also affect the change management control. The tools used should be efficient and user friendly for that to be effective.

The change requests and the changes that are being should be communicated properly to all the users and the higher authorities. Promoting the change process to all the users is also an important task. This also affects the way in which change control is done.

The project office team has to review the coming change request and confirm whether that the change is needed. The outcome of the change to the system that already exists should also be known before implementing the requested change. Minor changes in the project can be approved at the lower level itself. Only the changes that have a major impact on the existing system should be routed through the Change Control Board. There would be some principles established already. These principles are followed by the project manager and the change control board on all change request processing.
