Change management strategies The Four Types Implementing proper
change management strategies would help your business in managing the
changes requested in any business process or project in any verticals.
Having a change management process in place is sure to help the user
in deciding the course of action to take when a change is requested.
The impact of the change requested is analyzed and then it is implemented.
There are four change management strategies that are used commonly for managing change request. Empirical-Rational, Normative-Reeducative, Power-Coercive, and Environmental-Adaptive are the four strategies that are used in change management. Empirical rational is the one in which proper communication should be there and incentives given for following the change that took place. Usually people are rational and they like to do what they like. If that is there in the change they will adopt to it. Proper incentives should be in place for people to follow that. This should be communicated properly. The upside and downside are clearly given and people usually follow if there is a big upside than the downside. One strategy here is to doubt the current state and ask people to follow the change so that it will be reverted. Another strategy is to target those people who would influence others to follow. Normative Re-educative is a strategy that depends on the culture of the people. People usually value the norms and the culture in which they are brought up. You can redefine them and add values to it to make the change. But this cannot happen overnight. If your deadline is short then you cannot follow this strategy. Power-Coercive is the strategy that uses the authority to influence people to do what they want. In general people do what they are told to do and this approach is successful in certain organization. However the effect of culture also plays a role in this approach. If bureaucracy is reigning in the culture then this approach might work. Contrarily if autonomy and entrepreneurship is there then you might need to fill up certain positions if you take this approach. The Environmental Adaptive strategy uses the adaptive nature of the people. generally people dont like loss and instead of trying to change the people you can build another organization and shift people there so that they work in the new environment according to the new rules. The above are the four strategies of change management used in any organization in any vertical.
